Son Found Guilty of Brutally Murdering His Father in Kensington Flat Attack
A man who violently murdered his frail, elderly father in a prolonged and brutal assault has been convicted of murder at Southwark Crown Court.
Aston Lambert, 33, of Longridge Road, Kensington, was found guilty of killing his 78-year-old father, Alban Lambert, in a sustained attack at the family home on Sunday, 17 March 2024.
The court heard how Aston Lambert, whose behaviour had deteriorated in the months leading up to the murder, had become increasingly aggressive towards his father, leading Alban to ask him to leave the property.
On the day of the killing, Aston returned to the flat around 11:40hrs, where he was let in by Alban. Just under two hours later, Alban called his partner, telling her that Aston was demanding £40. The call was suddenly cut off, and attempts to reach Alban again were unsuccessful.
By 14:00hrs, neighbours began hearing alarming noises of a disturbance escalating from the flat. The situation grew so concerning that an emergency call was made around 15:15hrs. Officers from the Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived shortly after to a harrowing scene.
Alban Lambert was found lifeless in the hallway, with a dumbbell lying across his head. Aston Lambert was discovered in a nearby room, partially clothed, and initially claimed self-defence. However, this defence quickly unravelled when CCTV footage from inside the flat revealed the horrifying reality of the prolonged assault, which saw Aston attacking his father repeatedly while Alban lay defenceless on the floor.
Family Pays Tribute
Details
In a heartfelt statement, Alban Lambert’s family paid tribute, saying:
"Mr Alban Lambert was deeply loved by all who knew him, in particular, his family and friends. He brought love and laughter to all around him. It is therefore immensely sad to find ourselves trying to comprehend the senseless tragic act which resulted in the loss of his life."
"We are devastated by the loss of our Alban who was many things to many people – a father, grandfather, stepfather, brother, uncle, cousin, partner, and friend."
The family also thanked emergency services and investigators for their efforts and requested privacy as they grieve.
"Murder Motivated by Money," Say Detectives
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said:
"The motivation for Aston Lambert’s attack appears to have been money. He went to his father’s flat and demanded cash, but when Alban told him he didn’t have this, a violent rage took over leading to this murderous act."
"Alban Lambert was a frail and defenceless man, killed in his own home by someone he should have felt safe to be with."
DCI Townsend commended Alban’s family for their dignity and resilience throughout the investigation and trial.
Sentencing Next Month
Aston Lambert will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, 12 September 2025.
