Former Premier League footballer Colin Hendry, 59, has been sentenced at Preston Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to harassment without violence against a former partner.

The court heard that Hendry harassed the victim for over six months after their relationship ended, ignoring her requests for no contact. His behaviour included sending dozens of emails from multiple accounts, making calls using No Caller ID, and contacting her via LinkedIn after she blocked his number.

On several occasions, Hendry also appeared at the victim’s home uninvited, leaving unwanted gifts and flowers.

The victim reported Hendry to Lancashire Police, stating she felt “depressed and anxious” and was fearful of leaving her house. Police officers warned Hendry to cease contact, but he persisted.

Natasha Clark, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said:

“Colin Hendry harassed a former partner for over six months after their relationship ended. His behaviour was intimidating and persistent, causing the victim immense distress. This outcome is a clear indication that the CPS will not hesitate to prosecute anyone guilty of harassment whether this is in person or online.”

Hendry initially tried to argue that his actions did not amount to harassment, claiming he was concerned for the victim and her dog. However, prosecutors demonstrated that his repeated, unwanted communications constituted harassment.

The court heard how the victim’s mental health was severely affected, leaving her fearful of unannounced visits.

Hendry was sentenced today. Details of his sentence have not yet been released.
