Young Motorcyclist Dies in Late-Night Crash on A272 Rocky Lane

A young man has tragically died following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the A272 Rocky Lane near Cuckfield late Friday night (25 July).

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 10.20pm, close to the junction with Cedar Avenue. Despite the best efforts of paramedics to administer immediate life-saving treatment, the motorcyclist — a man in his 20s — was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The road was closed overnight from Virginia Drive to the Bolnore Village roundabout while forensic collision investigators carried out their work. Sussex Police have since confirmed that Rocky Lane has now reopened to the public.

Police are appealing for information from the public to assist with their investigation. Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the motorcycle prior to the collision or who may have captured relevant footage on dash cams or home CCTV systems.

Witnesses or anyone with footage are urged to contact police by emailing collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Operation Ninewest.

The exact circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
