Five Arrested as Violent Disorder Erupts Again at Epping Bell Hotel Protest
Essex Police have confirmed five arrests tonight following fresh scenes of violent disorder outside the Bell Hotel in Epping, where tensions remain high over the building’s use as a migrant accommodation centre.

A Section 35 Dispersal Order was enforced across the town centre to tackle ongoing anti-social behaviour, as demonstrators once again clashed with officers.

The protest, which began peacefully, descended into aggression and violence, with missiles thrown at police and a police vehicle damaged.

Arrests and Police Response
Four of those arrested were suspected of violent disorder linked to last Thursday’s riot, which saw eight officers injured. A fifth individual was arrested tonight after allegedly damaging an unmarked police vehicle, with a police helicopter deployed to track and detain the suspect swiftly.

In a separate incident, a woman walking through the protest was targeted with abuse and projectiles. Officers were forced to escort her from the area for her safety. No injuries to the woman were reported.
“We remain at the scene while a number of individuals continue to throw missiles and behave violently towards our officers,” Essex Police said in a statement.

Road Closures and Powers Enforced
Epping High Road was closed for several hours due to the disruption, and residents were thanked for their patience and support during the emergency operation.
A Section 60AA order is also in place until 4am Monday morning, giving officers the legal power to require protesters to remove face coverings or balaclavas. The force has warned that non-compliance may lead to arrest and imprisonment.
Essex Police Statement
Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow issued a strong condemnation of the violence:
“Disappointingly, we have seen yet another protest—starting peacefully—escalate into mindless thuggery. One of our officers has again been hurt, and a police vehicle damaged.”
“We don’t take sides. We arrest criminals. We have a duty to ensure no one is hurt—plain and simple. If you come here to cause trouble, expect to be arrested.”
“To the criminals who thought they’d slip through tonight, our cells are ready. That’s where you’ll be sleeping.”
