Man Hospitalised After Stabbing in Eastbourne

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a stabbing in Eastbourne on Sunday morning (July 20), prompting a large emergency response at a block of flats.

Emergency services were called to Whitley Road at 10.27am to reports of a man with a stab wound. Sussex Police confirmed the man had sustained a puncture wound and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The incident centred around The Old School block of flats on Whitley Road, where multiple police cars, vans, and Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) were seen stationed throughout the day.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the victim was airlifted to hospital by helicopter due to the nature of the injury and the emergency response required.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said:“We were called to a report of a man who had been stabbed in Whitley Road, Eastbourne, at 10.27am on Sunday (July 20).The man sustained a puncture wound and was taken to hospital. His condition is not life-threatening.

A man, known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing and there are officers in the area making enquiries.”

Residents reported seeing a heavy police presence at the scene throughout Sunday, with officers conducting door-to-door enquiries.
