Amazon Driver Killed in Teynham Level Crossing Crash Named as Brandon Hatcher
A delivery driver who tragically died in a crash involving a train at a rural level crossing near Teynham has been named as Brandon Hatcher, 23, from Ashford.
The fatal incident occurred at Bax Crossing in Tonge just after 12.45pm on Sunday (July 13), when Brandon’s Amazon delivery vehicle was struck by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His grieving family today paid tribute to the young father, describing him as “a great friend” with “the most caring soul”.
“Brandon was a dad, partner, son, brother, grandson and uncle, amongst being a great friend to many,” the family said.
“We are deeply saddened by his passing at such a tragically young age in an accident that could have been so easily avoided.
We hope there is learning from this to stop similar tragedies in the future.”
Tributes and Fundraising
Brandon leaves behind a partner and a young daughter. Friends, colleagues and members of the Amazon delivery network have since rallied around his family, launching a JustGiving fundraiser that has raised over £11,000.

Rob Galkoff, a fellow Amazon delivery service partner, said:
“One of my drivers in Kent lost his life in a tragic accident while doing his job. He leaves behind a wife and child.
As a community, we’re trying to raise money for them. Amazon is helping too, but every bit counts.”

Former colleagues and friends have flooded social media with tributes. Isabelle Harvey described Brandon as “the funniest, kindest, and most caring soul”, while Calum Bottlee wrote:
“I can’t believe you’re gone. Having the pleasure of calling you a friend was a blessing.”
Lloyd Bryant, a former colleague, added:
“Brandon was hilarious, loving, and an overall lovely guy. Your spirit will live on in everyone who knew you.”
Safety History at the Crossing
Bax Crossing is a manually operated rural level crossing, where motorists must exit their vehicles and open gates when a green light signals it is safe. It has been the subject of safety concerns, with new measures installed in March 2024 following previous near misses.
In a statement, Amazon said:
“This is a terrible incident. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the driver’s family. We are cooperating fully with the police and delivery partner during their investigation.”
British Transport Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched a preliminary examination, and investigators have visited the site to gather evidence.
Floral tributes have since been left near the crossing, and friends say Brandon’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
“Fly high, big fella,” said one tribute. “You’ll forever be in our hearts.”
