Police Investigate Indecent Behaviour on Brighton Nudist Beach

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were reportedly seen engaging in indecent behaviour on Brighton’s official nudist beach.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 11 July, at Dukes Mound, a designated clothing-optional section of beach located off Marine Parade, east of Brighton Pier.

A member of the public reported seeing two men pleasuring themselves in public view, which prompted a police investigation. Sussex Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident and are urging any witnesses or those with information to come forward.

Speaking to Sussex News, the witness described the uncomfortable encounter:

The woman told Sussex News:“I was on the nudist beach in Brighton when two men came and sat very close behind me. Something felt off, so I discreetly recorded a video on my phone. While watching it back, one of the men approached me and said, ‘Well, you’re the best view on the beach, aren’t you?’

It was only when I reviewed the footage properly that I realised he had been masturbating while staring at me.”

The woman has since been in contact with Sussex Police and is cooperating with the investigation.

Police Confirm Investigation Underway

Sussex Police said in a statement:

“We are aware of this incident, which refers to a report of two men acting indecently on the beach at Dukes Mound, Marine Parade, Brighton, on 11 July.

We have engaged with the informant and invited her for an appointment in order to progress the investigation.

In the meantime, we’re urging anyone with any information about the incident to report it online or call 101 quoting serial 247 of 11/07.”

About Brighton’s Official Nudist Beach

Dukes Mound is one of the UK’s few officially designated naturist beaches, having been recognised since the 1980s. The section of beach is clearly marked with signage indicating the start and end of the clothing-optional area.

While naturism is legal, sexual activity or indecent exposure intended to cause alarm or distress in public remains a criminal offence. Sussex Police are reminding beachgoers that all public spaces must be used respectfully.

Appeal for Information

No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone who was in the Dukes Mound area on the evening of 11 July and may have witnessed suspicious behaviour or has relevant footage is urged to contact Sussex Police quoting 247 of 11/07.
