A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm after a violent incident in Sidcup left two female Metropolitan Police officers seriously injured.
The attack occurred around midday on Saturday, 29 June, at a residential property on Hatherley Road, near the junction with Alma Road.
Officers from the Met attended the address to carry out an arrest when a violent struggle ensued. During the incident, two female police constables were assaulted.
One officer was left with multiple facial fractures and was rushed to hospital in serious condition. The second officer also required hospital treatment after sustaining a broken nose. She has since been discharged.
Additional officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, who was later charged with grievous bodily harm.
Suspect Charged
The suspect has been identified as Mark Weatherley, 43, from Sidcup.
He was charged on July 1 with GBH with intent and appeared virtually in court, where he was remanded in custody.
Weatherley is due to appear again at Woolwich Crown Court on July 29.
Police and Paramedic Response
Before paramedics arrived, attending officers provided immediate medical aid to their injured colleagues.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said they continue to support the injured officers during their recovery and are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as the case progresses.
