A blaze has broken out on the 11th floor of Northwood Tower, at residential high-rise in Marlowe Road, Walthamstow, with the resident reported to still be inside the property according to sources at the scene.
The London Fire Brigade was mobilised just after 11.20pm on Monday night to the scene in East London with multiple fire appliances racing to the scene along with Police and Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.
Major Fire Response Underway
HARTS” Teams from the London Ambulance service were also sent to the ongoing incident but were not required.
Witnesses have reported seeing multiple fire engines and ambulances outside the building, with smoke seen billowing from the upper floor. Firefighters with hoses wearing breathing apparatus have been seen entering the building.
The Dry Riser has also been charged by crews connecting all floors with a high pressure water support to help to extingsher the blaze if required.
There is no official word yet on casualties or injuries, and residents are urged to avoid the area and follow instructions from police and fire crews on site. A number of resident self evacuated from the flats prior to the arrival of the fire service.
Ongoing Incident
This incident is developing, and the cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage a source for the Brigade revealed that the blaze started on the balcony and specialist Fire investigators have called in to established the cause.
One man is understood to have been treated by Paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital by Ambulance.
