A large fire has broken out at a commercial warehouse on Imperial Way, Croydon, prompting a major response from the London Fire Brigade early this morning.
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters are currently at the scene, tackling flames engulfing part of a single-storey warehouse, which has an attached office block.
The fire service was called at 6.36am, and crews from Croydon, Purley, Norbury, Addington, and Mitcham fire stations were immediately deployed.
Roads Closed as Firefighters Battle Blaze
Imperial Way has been closed in both directions while emergency services respond. London Fire Brigade confirmed the incident is expected to continue for several hours, and have advised the public to avoid the area due to heavy smoke and emergency vehicle activity.
A spokesperson for the Brigade said:
“Firefighters are working hard to bring the fire under control. A significant section of the building is alight, and crews will remain on scene for some time. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
No injuries have been reported at this time.
Cause Under Investigation
Fire investigators will begin work once it is safe to enter the building. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and allow extra time for travel if heading through South Croydon, especially around Purley Way and Imperial Way.
Public Safety Note:
If you live or work nearby, keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area. Check for official updates from the London Fire Brigade and Transport for London on travel disruptions.
