A man has been charged with attempted murder following a serious knife attack in Walberton, Arundel last Friday evening (27 June) that left a woman with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Sussex Police were called to Eastergate Lane shortly after 7.15pm, where a 32-year-old woman was found suffering from multiple knife wounds. She was treated by emergency services at the scene and later taken to hospital.
Suspect Charged and Remanded
Melis Abzhaliev, 38, of Walberton, was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing at court on 28 July.
Police: “Brutal Attack”
Detective Inspector Matt Phelps, from Sussex Police’s West Sussex Division, praised the quick actions of investigating officers:
“This was a brutal attack which left a woman seriously injured.
Officers from different teams worked tirelessly to ensure a charge was obtained swiftly.”
Witness Appeal
Police confirmed they are not seeking any further suspects but are appealing to the public for any additional information that could support the investigation.
