A man has been convicted of manslaughter after a violent assault led to the death of his friend at a home in Charlton, south-east London.
On Wednesday, 25 June 2025, a jury at Isleworth Crown Court found Radoslaw Brzezicki, 42, of Erwood Road, Charlton, guilty of the manslaughter of 60-year-old Robert Dlugosz. He was also convicted of actual bodily harm (ABH) against a woman in her 40s who was present during the attack.
The Incident
The assault occurred on Wednesday, 22 November 2023 at a residential property on Erwood Road. Emergency services were called after a woman, who had also been attacked, escaped the home and alerted a neighbour.
When officers arrived, Robert Dlugosz was still alive but critically injured. Despite his condition, a first-response officer managed to use a translation app to communicate with him. Robert named Brzezicki as his attacker in a final statement that proved crucial in the case.
Police Statement
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, of Specialist Crime South, who led the investigation, said:
“Robert died in appalling circumstances, having been brutally assaulted by someone who claimed to be his friend.
“Due to the first-hand account Robert was able to give officers — while critically injured — justice has been done.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the surviving victim in this case. Her assistance from day one was vital. She showed great courage and determination throughout what has no doubt been a very traumatic time.”
Court Proceedings
Brzezicki was arrested shortly after the incident and charged. Despite undergoing emergency surgery, Robert Dlugosz sadly died three days later, on Saturday, 25 November 2023. A post-mortem confirmed his death was caused by a traumatic brain injury.
The court heard that Brzezicki had assaulted both victims following an argument. The woman managed to escape and notify a neighbour, prompting the emergency call.
Sentencing Date
Brzezicki is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, 24 July.
Remembering Robert
Police said their thoughts remain with Robert’s loved ones, and praised the courage of both victims for helping secure justice.
