A murder investigation is underway after a man in his 40s was shot dead in broad daylight near the Costco store on Imperial Way, Croydon, on Thursday evening.
Emergency Response
Metropolitan Police officers were called to Imperial Way at 17:04hrs on 19 June following reports of gunfire. Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service paramedics, attended the scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds.
Despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Investigation Underway
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation, led by Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten.
“This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time,” said DCI Whitten.
“Our team of specially trained officers are supporting them as our investigation progresses.
Our enquiries are ongoing and we would urge any witnesses to come forward and share information with us.”
The incident has sparked shock among shoppers and local residents. One lorry driver at the scene described the moment shots were fired, as the victim attempted to flee across the Costco car park before being gunned down in front of customers.
Witness Appeal
Police are calling for anyone who may have seen the shooting or has mobile phone, dashcam, or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact them.
