A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm following a violent late-night assault in Worthing town centre.
Sussex Police were called to Montague Street at approximately 11.30pm on Sunday, 1 June, after receiving reports that a man had been attacked with a rolling pin.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, where paramedics assessed the 47-year-old victim for injuries. His condition has not been disclosed, but he did not require hospitalisation at the time.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers, assisted by police dog PD Raven, launched an immediate search and successfully tracked a man hiding behind the stairwell of a basement property nearby.
A 45-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent. He was also arrested for possession of a Class B drug and burglary in connection with a separate investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
Sussex Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
