Sussex Police have obtained a full closure order on a flat in Berwick Court, Bourne Street, Eastbourne, following persistent anti-social behaviour, drug-related activity, and public disorder.
The order was granted on 3 June 2025 at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and took immediate effect, with the occupant removed from the premises. The property will now remain sealed under legal order for three months, during which time access is prohibited.
Police Response to Community Complaints
The closure follows multiple complaints from neighbours who had been affected by violent and disruptive behaviour linked to the address. Officers worked alongside Eastbourne Borough Council to gather evidence and pursue court action.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Mattie Adam said:
"Residents had been subjected to anti-social and violent incidents for several months. We hope the closure order offers much-needed respite from the impact and intrusion these behaviours have had on their lives."
"We’re grateful to those who came forward to report these issues and to our council partners for their support."
What is a Closure Order?
Closure orders, under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, allow police and local authorities to close premises that are being used, or are likely to be used, to commit nuisance or disorder. They are an important tool in protecting residents from long-term disruption.
Police Appeal for Community Reports
Sergeant Adam added:
"Reports from the local community help us build a map of crime in specific areas. This is vital for applying for closure orders and guiding our daily patrol strategies."
