A large-scale search operation is continuing this morning along the River Thames in Gravesend, after a young girl went missing in the water on Friday afternoon.
Kent Police were called at 1:46pm on Friday, 30 May, by the Port of London Authority, following concerns for the welfare of two children who had entered the river near Royal Pier Road.
Emergency services, including H.M. Coastguard, the RNLI, and the South East Coast Ambulance Service, attended the scene. A boy was rescued from the water and transported to a local hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Girl Remains Missing
The search is now focused on locating the missing girl, who has not yet been found. Teams from Kent Police’s Marine Unit and H.M. Coastguard are continuing to scour the river and riverbanks.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said:
“We are working alongside partner agencies in an extensive search operation to locate the missing child. Our thoughts are with her family at this deeply distressing time.”
Public Asked to Avoid Area
Emergency services remain on scene near Royal Pier Road, and members of the public are asked to stay clear of the search area to allow crews to operate without disruption.
Further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
