A major search operation is underway in Gravesend after two children entered the River Thames near Royal Pier Road on Friday afternoon (May 30). One child—a boy—has been rescued and rushed to hospital, while a nine-year-old girl remains missing.
Emergency Services Respond to River Crisis
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1.40pm after reports that two children were in difficulty in the water near Royal Terrace Pier.
In a joint response, Kent Police, the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) launched an urgent rescue and recovery effort.
A SECAmb spokesperson confirmed:
“Crews attended the scene, and a male patient was assessed and treated before being taken to a local hospital for further medical treatment.”
The condition of the boy remains unknown at this time.

“One child has been recovered and the search is ongoing for a second,” HM Coastguard said.
