A 35-year-old man has been arrested following a dramatic police response involving armed officers from Sussex and Hampshire Constabularies after an altercation in Worthing on Wednesday afternoon (May 21).
The incident began shortly before 3pm on Warren Road in Worthing, where Sussex Police were called to reports of an altercation. A suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later tracked and stopped on Eastern Road in Portsmouth by armed response units.
Arrest and Investigation Underway
Police confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“Police responded to a report of an altercation in Warren Road, Worthing, shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, 21 May. A vehicle left the area and was later stopped by Sussex Police and Hampshire Constabulary armed response officers in Eastern Road, Portsmouth.
A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, and has been bailed, pending further enquiries.”
Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are now appealing for any witnesses or those with dashcam footage or information relating to the altercation in Worthing.
