A mass stabbing in Hoofddorp, northern Netherlands, has left two people dead and two police officers injured, in what authorities are calling a major incident under active investigation.
Emergency services were alerted around 6am local time (4am GMT) on Wednesday to a stabbing at Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan, a group home for individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
Victims Include Police Officer
Dutch police confirmed that one of the victims was a serving officer, and at least one person remains in critical condition. The full identities of those involved have not been released, but local reports say multiple ambulances and trauma teams attended the scene.
A spokesperson for Politie Eenheid Noord-Holland said:
“We received a report of a stabbing incident. There are multiple victims, including a colleague. Multiple ambulances and a trauma team (MMT) are on site.”
Scene Sealed Off as Investigation Begins
The area around the care facility has been cordoned off, with police tape and multiple emergency vehicles, including a trauma helicopter. According to Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad, at least six ambulances were seen on Fanny Blankers-Koenlaan, along with two trauma teams.
Eyewitness footage shows blood-smeared police vehicles and a stretcher near the cordoned area. It remains unclear if any arrests have been made, and the motive for the attack has not yet been confirmed.
Care Facility Involved
The incident took place at a group residential centre that supports people with intellectual disabilities. MailOnline reports they have contacted the organisation for comment, but none has yet been provided.
Police have urged the public to avoid the area as forensic investigations continue.
