Retired Police Officer to Face Trial Over Alleged Harassment of Woman via Emails to Employer

A former firearms officer with Devon and Cornwall Police is set to face trial later this year after denying harassment charges related to sending allegedly discrediting emails about a woman to her employer.

Harry Tangye, 56, of Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay, appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of non-violent harassment against Sofia Cann.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between August and September 2024.

Allegations of Email Harassment

According to prosecutor Paul Gallagher, Tangye is accused of sending emails to Ms Cann’s line manager at a university in West Yorkshire, with the apparent intention of discrediting her.

The emails were reportedly sent during August 2024.

Trial Date Set for November

Magistrates adjourned the case for a full trial, which will be held at Truro Magistrates’ Court on 7 November 2025.

Tangye was granted bail with the condition that he “makes no contact, by any media” with Ms Cann.

 Background

Tangye previously served as a firearms response officer with Devon and Cornwall Police and retired from the force in 2020.

His case has drawn attention due to his former policing role and public profile.
