Greater Manchester Police have launched a witness appeal following the violent assault of a 62-year-old man in Middleton, Rochdale, on the evening of Tuesday, 6 May 2025.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30pm near the roundabout connecting Green Lane and Stanycliffe Lane, close to Middleton Cemetery. Police say the victim was attacked from behind and rendered unconscious before being verbally abused by the unknown suspect who then fled the scene.
The man was later taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Location and Community Impact
The assault took place in a quiet residential zone often considered low-crime, according to UK Crime Stats, which show the area reports fewer violent incidents than the national average.
Stanycliffe Lane, home to community staples like SPAR and the Stanycliffe Community Centre, has been left shaken by the attack. Nearby residents are expressing concern, especially given the location’s proximity to Middleton Cemetery, a well-known local landmark.
A post from Roch Valley Radio on X (formerly Twitter) helped amplify the appeal, with locals sharing and discussing the case.
