A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and police assault after allegedly attempting to snatch a baby in a pram during a disturbing incident on Blackpool promenade.
The drama unfolded around 11:30am on Saturday, 10 May, on Central Drive near the Coral Island Amusement Centre, a popular tourist spot near the beach.
Public and Parent Intervened
The baby was reportedly being pushed by their parent when a stranger approached and allegedly tried to take the child from the pram.
Quick-thinking members of the public and the baby’s parent immediately stepped in, preventing the child from being taken. Thankfully, the baby was unharmed.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed:
"A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of child abduction and assault on police."
Police Urge Calm and Caution Against Speculation
Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton of Blackpool Police issued a statement to reassure the public:
"We know this kind of incident is very concerning. We’re in the early stages of our investigation and working to establish the full circumstances.
"We’re also aware of some content circulating on social media. Please don’t speculate online. If you have footage or relevant information, report it through official channels."
