An 80-year-old woman has tragically died after being struck by a cyclist during an organised cycling event in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.
The collision occurred around 12pm on Sunday, 4 May, on Mottram Road in Tameside, where the woman was reportedly walking when she was hit by a male cyclist. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) say the man was overtaking another slower cyclist at the time of the impact.
The pensioner was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and sadly died days later on Wednesday (8 May), GMP confirmed on Friday.
Cyclist Remained at Scene
The cyclist involved suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene, assisting with enquiries. No arrests have been made.
Police said the event was part of an organised ride, although full details of the event have not been released. The woman’s identity has not yet been made public.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
A GMP spokesperson said:
“An investigation is ongoing. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact us.
