A police officer has suffered serious injuries after being attacked during a stop in West Croydon. A 27-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) following the incident.
At around 5:56pm on Wednesday, 7 May, Metropolitan Police officers were alerted to suspicious behaviour involving a man on Station Road, West Croydon.
During the encounter, the man became violent, leaving one officer with serious injuries. Although the injuries were not deemed life-threatening or life-changing, the officer required immediate medical attention.
The suspect was tasered at the scene to prevent further harm and was arrested on suspicion of GBH.
Suspect Charged
Police have confirmed that Asif Ahmadziy, 27, of South Road, Birmingham, was later charged with GBH the same evening.
He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court the following day.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said:
“Our officers responded swiftly to a report of suspicious behaviour. Unfortunately, one officer was seriously assaulted while carrying out his duty. We are supporting our colleague as they recover.”
The incident has sparked renewed concern about violence against emergency workers, with many calling for stronger protections and tougher sentences.
