Police Target Equine Crime with Operation Gallop Visits to Local Stables

Rural crime officers have been out in force visiting stables across the region as part of a national week of action under Operation Gallop, targeting equine-related offences.

Officers provided vital security advice to the horse-riding community, including the forensic marking of trailers, horse boxes, and valuable tack to help deter theft. Drivers were also reminded about safe passing practices when encountering horses on the roads — stressing the importance of slowing down to 10mph, leaving a 2-metre gap, and driving away patiently and slowly.

PC Alex Lovelock, who was involved in the campaign, said:

“Our efforts focused on sharing crime prevention and property marking advice as well as promoting safe road passing.
We were made very welcome by all the yards and stables and hopefully shared some simple tips that deter thieves by making valuable tack uniquely identifiable and harder to sell.”

The week of action aims to raise awareness and strengthen community ties to tackle rural crime effectively.
