Emergency services rushed to Homerton Road in Hackney, East London, after a body was discovered in the canal near a moored boat called Candy Girl on Wednesday Lumchtime.
London Fire Brigade crews, including a specialist boat team, were deployed alongside police and ambulance teams after the alarm was raised.
Eyewitnesses reported a heavy emergency services presence at the scene. Firefighters from the nearby stations worked alongside police divers to recover the body from the water, while shocked locals looked on.
