A much-loved father has died in hospital weeks after being seriously injured in a brutal assault in Plymouth, with nine people now charged in connection with the incident.
Danny Cahalane, 38, had been in a critical condition since the attack on Lipson Road on Friday, 21 February 2025.
Despite the best efforts of medical teams, he tragically passed away on Saturday, 3 May. His grieving family has been informed and have since paid tribute to a โcherishedโ son and father.
In an emotional statement, the family said:
As a family, we are struggling to come to terms with Dannyโs passing.
Danny was an outstanding father and son. Danny and his mum had so much love for each other.
He is well loved by his family and friends, and we cherish his love and memories.
“We ask that our privacy is respected during this difficult time.
Police launched a major investigation immediately after the attack earlier this year, arresting multiple individuals in connection with the assault.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed:
Nine people have been charged in relation to the incident.
The exact charges have not yet been made public, but detectives have confirmed that the investigation is being treated as a murder inquiry following Mr Cahalaneโs death.
Detective Superintendent Ben Davies, the senior investigating officer, said:
Our thoughts are with Dannyโs family and friends at this sad and difficult time.
“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident remains very much ongoing.”
Police continue to maintain a visible presence in the Lipson Road area as part of efforts to reassure the local community, and officers are appealing for any further witnesses to come forward.
