A significant emergency operation is underway at Wendy’s on the High Street in Sutton after a large fire broke out earlier today.
The London Fire Brigade has dispatched eight fire engines to the incident .
Fire crews rushed to the popular fast-food outlet shortly after receiving multiple emergency calls around 3pm on Thursday 1st May 2025.
It following reports that a wooden beam was alight within the store and flames were rapidly spreading.

Specialist resources, including a Turntable Ladder and two Fire Rescue Units (FRU) for Extended Duration Breathing Apparatus (EDBA) support, have been requested from the scene. Firefighters are working in challenging conditions to contain the blaze and secure the area.

Major Incident Declared
The fire service source at the scene has confirmed that hazardous materials has been detected, escalating the response level and prompting enhanced safety protocols.

An Rendezvous Point has been established at Nicholas Road to coordinate the multi-agency response. Police have cordoned off surrounding streets, and residents are urged to avoid the area.

No injuries have been reported at this stage, but the situation remains dynamic.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and will be thoroughly investigated once the scene is deemed safe.
A Spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said : Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are attending a fire on High Street in Sutton.

The fire is situated in a building with a restaurant on the ground floor and flats above. Ducting running from the first floor to the roof is currently alight.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.
The Brigade was called at 2.41pm and Control Officers have mobilised crews from Sutton, Wallington, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden and surrounding fire stations to the scene. A 32 metre turntable ladder from Clapham fire station is also attending.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
