Emergency services rushed to the scene of a serious crash involving two cyclists on Waterloo Bridge this evening, leading to road closures and major traffic disruption in Central London.
The collision occurred near Lancaster Place, at the north side of Waterloo Bridge, shortly before 6pm on Tuesday, April 29.
The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene after receiving reports of a crash involving two bicycles.
One Cyclist in Critical Condition
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed:
“Police are currently on scene of a serious collision close to Trafalgar Square. Officers were called at 17:50hrs on Tuesday, 29 April to Lancaster Place following reports of a collision involving two bicycles.
One cyclist has been taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Road closures remain in place in the area.”
Heavy Delays in Central London
The crash caused traffic to come to a near standstill on Waterloo Bridge, one of London’s busiest crossings, with significant delays reported along Strand, Aldwych, and towards Victoria Embankment.
Commuters and bus passengers faced severe delays as police cordoned off parts of the bridge for investigation.
Ongoing Investigation
The exact cause of the collision is under investigation. Officers have appealed for witnesses or dashcam footage that may assist their enquiries.
