Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Emergency Response Policing Team E (ERPT E) and the East Area Proactive Team have been formally commended for their “exceptional professionalism, bravery, teamwork, and commitment” during a critical life-saving incident in May 2024.
The award recognises the outstanding actions of officers who responded to a major emergency in Whalebone Lane South, where a victim had suffered severe gunshot and stab wounds.
Upon arriving on scene, officers from the EA Proactive Team administered urgent emergency first aid, playing a crucial role in saving the victim’s life.
Working in coordination, the officers from ERPT E and the EA Proactive Team immediately secured the crime scene, identified key witnesses, and began collecting crucial CCTV evidence. Within just an hour of their initial call to police, a suspect was located, identified, and detained.
Thanks to the rapid, professional, and coordinated efforts of the teams, not only was the victim’s life saved, but critical evidence was preserved, leading to the arrest and charging of the primary suspect and three additional individuals connected to the incident.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
This exceptional police work exemplifies the highest standards of policing. Their commitment to protecting lives and bringing offenders to justice is an inspiration to us all.”
PS Wiseman of the EA Proactive Team was personally presented with a commendation during the ceremony, recognising the exemplary teamwork and life-saving actions demonstrated on the day.
The Metropolitan Police continues to emphasise the vital importance of frontline policing and teamwork in protecting London’s communities and swiftly responding to violent crime.
