Firefighters tackled a blaze at a commercial property in Margate early this morning after a tumble dryer caught fire.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to King Street shortly before 4am following reports of a fire at the premises. Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene.
Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, swiftly brought the flames under control using high-pressure hose reel jets. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
An investigation suggests the fire originated from a tumble dryer.
In light of the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service is urging residents and businesses to take extra care when using appliances such as tumble dryers, dishwashers, and washing machines.
Safety advice includes:
- Regularly maintain appliances according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Check that appliances are in good working order before use.
- Only run appliances when someone is at home and awake.
- Ensure working smoke alarms are installed on every floor of the property.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said:
“This incident highlights the importance of maintaining appliances and using them safely. Working smoke alarms can make all the difference by providing early warning in the event of a fire.”
Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe and the fire fully extinguished by 4:21am.
