A teenage boy has tragically died and a man has been arrested following a fatal collision on London Road in Purfleet, south Essex.
Emergency services were called at around 10.15pm last night (Thursday, April 24) to reports of a two-car crash near the Stonehouse Corner roundabout.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics and first responders, a 17-year-old boy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers from Essex Police.
An 18-year-old man from Rainham was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
The road was closed for several hours overnight while emergency crews worked at the scene and collision investigators carried out inquiries. It has since reopened.
