A man in his 60s has died in hospital weeks after suffering a serious assault in Ramsgate’s town centre, prompting a homicide investigation by Kent Police.
The incident occurred at around 10.41pm on Friday, March 28, on Harbour Street, where emergency services were called following reports of a violent attack. The victim sustained head injuries and was taken to King’s College Hospital in London, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries over the weekend.
Police had previously arrested and charged Marshall Mitchell, 34, of Crescent Road, Ramsgate, with unlawful wounding in connection with the incident. Mitchell appeared at Margate Magistrates’ Court on March 31 and was remanded in custody, with a further hearing scheduled for Canterbury Crown Court on April 28.
With the man’s death now confirmed, the case is expected to be reviewed for potential upgraded charges.
A Kent Police spokesperson said:
“Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are in contact with those involved, and enquiries are ongoing. We would like to thank the public for their support and continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.”
A forensic investigation van was seen at the scene in the aftermath of the assault, and a police cordon remained in place overnight as officers gathered evidence.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released publicly.
