A peaceful Sunday evening turned into a scene of tragedy as a mass shooting at Fifth Avenue Park left two people dead and nine others injured, according to local authorities.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the Conway Police Department and emergency services. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as gunfire erupted during what appeared to be a casual gathering in the park.
“It was terrifying. People were running, kids were crying—it was complete panic,” one witness said.
Victims and Response
The nine injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
First responders quickly secured the area and provided aid to victims as bystanders fled to safety. Videos shared on social media show the moments shots rang out, with parkgoers scattering in fear.
Investigation Underway
As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made, and police have not confirmed whether a single suspect or multiple individuals were involved. Authorities are actively pursuing leads and urging anyone with information to come forward.
“This was a senseless act of violence, and we are committed to finding those responsible,” said a spokesperson for the Conway Police Department. “We ask the public to avoid the area as our investigation continues.”
Community in Mourning
The shooting is among the most severe incidents of gun violence in Conway’s recent history, and the impact on the community has been profound.
Local leaders and residents have expressed their heartbreak and called for unity.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims,” said Conway Mayor Bart Castleberry. “This tragedy reminds us of the importance of standing together and supporting one another through unthinkable times.”
