A 17-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries after being shot in broad daylight in Corby. The incident took place shortly after 4:30pm on Friday, 11 April, in Westcott Way, prompting a major police response and community concern.
The teenager was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Northamptonshire Police are treating the incident as a serious assault, describing it as a targeted attack.
Police Working “Around the Clock”
Detectives from Northamptonshire Police have launched an urgent investigation to identify those responsible. Officers have been conducting house-to-house enquiries and reviewing local CCTV as part of their efforts.
“This was a shocking act of violence in the middle of the afternoon,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hopkinson, who is leading the investigation. “We’re determined to bring those responsible to justice and are working around the clock to gather evidence.”
While the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, police believe there is no wider risk to the public. Nevertheless, the brazen nature of the attack has left residents shaken, with many calling for increased patrols in the area.
Appeal for CCTV and Doorbell Footage
Police are now urgently appealing for CCTV and doorbell footage from anyone living in and around Westcott Way. DCI Hopkinson asked residents to review recordings between 4:00pm and 4:35pm on 11 April, saying even footage that doesn’t directly show the street could hold vital clues.
“We would rather receive well-meaning information that turns out to be nothing than to not receive it at all,” Hopkinson said. “Even background noise or glimpses of movement could help us piece together what happened.”
