Four people have been charged following a violent assault on a woman driving along Water Lane in Hawkhurst on Sunday afternoon, in an incident that also saw emergency workers allegedly attacked during subsequent arrests.
The assault took place at approximately 2:40pm on Sunday, April 6, when the female motorist, in her 60s, encountered a motorcycle and a car travelling in the wrong direction along the one-way street. After stopping her vehicle to speak with the motorcyclist, the woman was reportedly assaulted and sustained serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Arrests and Charges
On Monday, April 7, officers detained four suspects in connection with the incident. During the arrests, it is alleged that emergency service workers were also assaulted.
The four individuals, all from All Saints Road in Hawkhurst, have been identified as:
- Freddie Turner, 26
- Brett Turner, 50
- Ellie Turner, 21
- Rose Smith, 50
All four have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
In addition:
- Rose Smith faces an additional three counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
- Ellie Turner is further charged with three counts of assault on emergency workers and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
All four suspects were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 9.
Ongoing Investigation
Kent Police are continuing their enquiries and are appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone with relevant information to come forward.
