Investigation Ongoing

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigators will begin assessing the damage once the area is deemed safe. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

A Spokesman for the London Fire Brigade Said: Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats on Pan Peninsula in Millwall.

Part of a five roomed flat on the sixth floor was damaged by the fire. Two people were rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers gave vital Fire Survival Guidance (FSG) on how to stay safe to residents in a neighbouring flat before firefighters arrived. There are no reports of any injuries.

Smoke alarms were present in the property, but did not operate.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home.

"Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts and we would urge everyone to make sure they have one fitted in every room where a fire can start except kitchens or bathrooms where heat alarms are more appropriate."

Control Officers took the first of four calls at 1951 and mobilised crews from Poplar, Whitechapel, Plaistow and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The incident was over for firefighters at 2153.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and was caused by an electrical fault.
