Chemical Alert Sparks Major Emergency Response at Riverside Quay in Battersea near the the US Embassy
Emergency services have launched a large-scale response at Riverside Quay in Battersea this evening following the discovery of a container holding an unknown substance.
Nearby Properties have been evacuatedĀ by Police and the area has been no go. People living above have been advised to stay in doors.
Specialist science teams from the London Fire Brigade, including the Detection, Identification and Monitoring (DIM) unit, along with officers from the Metropolitan Police, have been called to the scene to assess the situation.
The area remains cordoned off while investigations are ongoing.
It is understood that a box containing bottles with crystallized powder and needles filled with a liquid was discovered at the riverside location, prompting immediate safety measures.
A source from the London Fire Brigade said, āSpecialist teams are currently on-site conducting tests to identify the substances involved.
As a precaution, we have established a cordon around the affected area.ā
In addition to fire and police units, the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear)Ā (CBRN) from the met Police Guardian Unit and Police hazardous areas response officers are supportingĀ the London Fire Brigade have been deployed to support the operation.
Residents and visitors are being advised to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
Authorities have confirmed that no injuries have been reported at this time, but the nature of the substances remains unclear.
