A massive fire has ripped through a vacant retail store on Kirkcaldy High Street, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that they were alerted to the blaze around 8:23 pm on Sunday, March 30. Six fire appliances, multiple police vehicles, and an ambulance crew were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames shooting from the building, with thick smoke billowing across the road and into the sky. Local residents gathered on the street as firefighters battled to contain the blaze.
Social media posts indicate that the fire broke out in a vacant shop that was previously leased by Poundstretchers. However, it remains unclear whether any injuries have occurred or if any surrounding buildings have been evacuated.
Images from the scene show police cordoning off nearby roads while emergency personnel work to secure the area. The heavy presence of smoke has significantly reduced visibility, and local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors if possible.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted to a fire at Kirkcaldy High Street at 8:23 pm. We have six appliances currently at the scene.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing. Police Scotland has been approached for further comments.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow local traffic updates, as road closures are expected to remain in place while emergency crews continue their work.
The public is encouraged to stay clear of the area to allow emergency services to manage the situation safely. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
