M5 Closed in Both Directions Due to Police Incident: Motorists Advised to Expect Delays

The M5 motorway in Gloucestershire has been closed in both directions between Junction 13 (Stroud) and Junction 14 (Thornbury) due to a police-led incident.

The closure, enforced by Gloucestershire Police, is impacting both northbound and southbound traffic. National Highways Traffic Officers are on the scene, assisting with traffic management and working to mitigate congestion.

Motorists caught within the closure are currently being turned around from the rear of the queue.

Southbound Traffic:
Drivers heading southbound are advised to follow the Solid Circle diversion symbol on road signs:

  • Exit the M5 at J13 and take the A38 southbound.
  • Continue along the A38 southbound.
  • Re-join the M5 at J14.

Northbound Traffic:
Drivers heading northbound should follow the Solid Triangle diversion symbol on road signs:

  • Exit the M5 at J14 and take the A38 northbound.
  • Continue along the A38 northbound.
  • Re-join the M5 at J13.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider re-routing or delaying their journeys.
