A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people, including a young child, died in a devastating house fire in Rushton, near Kettering.
Northamptonshire Police confirmed that a 30-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man, and a four-year-old girl lost their lives following a blaze at a former station house on Friday night.
The suspect, a man from Kettering, was taken into custody on Saturday and remains detained as investigations continue. The victims’ next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Chief Inspector Paul Cash addressed the community’s concerns on Sunday afternoon, stating: “We know this incident has caused significant distress locally, and our officers will remain in the area to provide reassurance and help where we can.”
Emergency services were called to the scene on Friday night, but despite their efforts, the three victims could not be saved. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities treating the incident as a murder investigation.
The police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
The local community remains in shock following the tragic loss of life, and floral tributes have begun to appear near the scene as residents mourn the victims.
