A man has been taken to hospital with life-changing injury following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Welling this morning.
Emergency services were called to Central Avenue at around 8:46 am on Saturday, March 29, after reports of a crash. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, along with ambulance crews, attended the scene.
The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, sustained a serious arm injury described as “potentially life-changing” and was transported to hospital for treatment. His current condition has not yet been confirmed.
Road Closures and Disruption
Central Avenue remains closed as police carry out their investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Commuters are advised to plan alternative routes as road closures are expected to remain in place for several hours.
The incident has also affected public transport, with the 51 bus route being diverted between Bellegrove Road and Edison Road in both directions via Bellegrove Road and Wickham Street.
A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police said:
“At 08:46hrs on Saturday, 29 March, police were called to a road traffic collision in Central Avenue, Welling, involving a car and a pedestrian. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service. The pedestrian, a 46-year-old man, was taken to hospital with a potentially life-changing arm injury. The road remains closed while officers investigate the incident.”
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference CAD 1196/29MAR25.
