Police Launch Investigation After Man Arrives at Hospital with Gunshot Wound in East London

Police have launched an investigation after a man arrived at The Royal London Hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning with a gunshot wound to his arm.

The 28-year-old self-presented at the hospital in Whitechapel shortly after 4am. Hospital staff immediately alerted police, prompting a response from armed officers from the Metropolitan Police, who attended to speak with the injured man.

He is currently undergoing treatment, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Shooting Believed to Have Occurred on Waley Street

Initial enquiries suggest the incident took place on Waley Street, E1, before 4am. Officers attended the scene, where a crime scene was established, and door-to-door enquiries were carried out in the surrounding area.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said:

“At around 04:00hrs on Thursday, 27 March police were made aware that a man, aged 28, was being treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to the arm.

The incident took place on Waley Street, E1 at some point before 04:00hrs. Officers attended to search the area and complete door-to-door enquiries.

A crime scene was put in place. No arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing.”

Appeal for Information

Detectives are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the motive and those involved.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or has information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
