A wave of burglaries in the quiet village of Hartford, near Northwich, has left residents anxious and rallying together, as Cheshire Police continue their hunt for a suspect believed to be behind a series of late-night break-ins.
The latest incidents, which occurred over the weekend, follow a string of similar burglaries in recent weeks, with homes and sheds being targeted between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM. Police have now renewed their appeal for CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage, urging locals to help track the movements of the person responsible.
Thief Targets Sheds, Freezers, and Bikes
One victim, who took to Facebook to share their experience, said their shed was broken into in the early hours of Wednesday, 19 March. The intruder made off with a road bike, alcohol, and meat and frozen food stored in a chest freezer.
“We know he walked down Landswood Park at approximately 2:40 AM, came into our property, and left across the little green,” the victim wrote. “Please check your CCTV. Even a glimpse of him could help.”
The post has since been widely shared on local community pages, with residents offering to check footage and share any sightings with police.
Police Appeal and Community Response
Cheshire Police are actively investigating multiple reports from the area and suspect that the same individual may be responsible for several burglaries in Hartford. Officers believe the thief is travelling on foot and using green spaces to move between properties unnoticed.
A police spokesperson said:
“We are investigating a number of break-ins in Hartford and are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or doorbell footage—particularly from the early hours of the morning—to contact us. These crimes are understandably causing concern in the community, and we are committed to identifying and apprehending the person responsible.”
