A 38-year-old man from Leyton has been charged with multiple offences, including drink driving, after a pedestrian was struck by a car in the early hours of Saturday morning (March 22).
Beniduthsing Ramjeeawon, of Fulready Road, Leyton, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a Class B drug, and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, following the incident on Lea Bridge Road.
Pedestrian Injured, Driver Arrested
Police were called to the scene at approximately 2.50am, after a man in his 20s was hit by a car. Emergency services attended and the injured pedestrian was taken to hospital. His injuries have since been assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing, according to the Metropolitan Police.
A short time after the collision, the car involved in the incident crashed, and the driver — now identified as Ramjeeawon — was arrested at the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said:
“Police were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Lea Bridge Road at 2.50am on Saturday, March 22.
The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with injuries which have since been assessed as non-life-threatening or life-changing.
The car later crashed and a man, the driver, was arrested at the scene.
Beniduthsing Ramjeeawon, 38, of Fulready Road, Leyton, was later charged with possession of a Class B drug, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop.”
Court Appearance Scheduled
Ramjeeawon has since been bailed and is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 7.
The incident adds to growing concern in the community over drink driving and road safety, especially during the early hours when pedestrian visibility and driver attentiveness can be compromised.

Police have not confirmed whether additional charges may follow, but investigations into the circumstances of the collision and subsequent crash are ongoing.
