Dispersal Order Issued in Southend Following Reports of Dangerous Driving at Car Cruise Event

A dispersal order has been issued in Southend this evening following reports of dangerous and reckless driving linked to an organised car cruise event along the Western Esplanade.

The order, which came into force at 8pm on Saturday (March 22), will remain in place until 8am on Sunday (March 23). It gives police the power to disperse groups engaging in anti-social or dangerous behaviour and prevent them from returning to the area, or face arrest.

The affected areas include key parts of the seafront such as Marine Parade, Pier Hill, Western Esplanade, and Chalkwell Esplanade.

Public Safety Concerns Prompt Police Action

The move follows multiple reports of reckless driving, with concerns raised over spectators standing dangerously close to the road, putting themselves at serious risk. Police say the dispersal order has been implemented to ensure public safety and prevent further escalation.

Inspector Sian Parry, from Essex Police, said:

“This evening we have unfortunately seen dangerous and reckless driving. This is putting people at risk and will not be tolerated.
We have resources in place to deal with illegal activity and protect our communities.”

She added:

“We never use these powers lightly, but reckless and dangerous behaviour from drivers who are part of such events will be dealt with robustly.
I want to be very clear—if you are coming to Southend or are here to take part in reckless and illegal activity on the roads, the message is simple: don’t. And if you do, you’ll be moved on very quickly, or arrested.”

Police Urge Public Cooperation

Essex Police are urging residents and visitors to cooperate with officers and report any further incidents of dangerous driving or anti-social behaviour.

The dispersal order forms part of a broader effort by police to clamp down on illegal car meets, which have become a growing concern in various parts of the country.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops overnight.
