A man who escaped from lawful custody earlier this week has been arrested after being found in a car in Blackburn.
Jamie Cooper, originally from Blackpool, was discovered by Lancashire Police on Saturday afternoon as a passenger in a vehicle that had travelled from Bolton. Officers arrested the 33-year-old on suspicion of escaping from lawful custody.
Cooper had been on the run since Wednesday morning, after fleeing from a GEOAmey prison transport van. He escaped shortly before 09:00 GMT while the vehicle was travelling along the M55 motorway near Junction 2, close to Preston.
A manhunt was launched following the escape, prompting appeals from police for information on Cooper’s whereabouts.
Lancashire Police have not released further details about the vehicle he was found in or whether any other arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
