The BBC’s DIY SOS team is making a last-minute appeal for tradespeople and suppliers to join a life-changing home renovation project for a grieving family in Grove Park.
Led by presenter Nick Knowles, the team will arrive in the area from April 2 to April 10, 2025, to transform the home of the Scott family, who have faced immense personal tragedy and are now in urgent need of support.
With the build fast approaching, the production team is still seeking window and door suppliers, bespoke joiners, telehandler operators, and plasterers to help bring the project over the finish line.
A Family Facing Extraordinary Challenges
The renovation aims to help the Scott family, whose lives were turned upside down in February 2023 when mum Zoe tragically passed away following an accident at home, leaving behind five children: Somer (30), Samuel (25), Shay (19), Sadie (13) and Seth (9).
While Somer is studying to become a doctor in Liverpool, Samuel has become the family’s primary caregiver—particularly for Seth, who is blind, severely autistic, and suffers from renal failure. The family’s home is in poor condition, with cramped spaces, faulty electrics, and an unsafe layout that makes everyday care increasingly difficult.
DIY SOS hopes to transform the house into a safe, accessible, and functional living space to better support the family’s complex needs.
Volunteers and Suppliers Urgently Needed
In a heartfelt message shared on the show’s official Facebook page, the team wrote:
“We need support from tradespeople, volunteers, and suppliers by donating skills and materials. Your generosity will help transform the lives of a local family by completely renovating their current space into a usable and fit-for-purpose home.
The post also highlighted that all volunteers will be fully catered for on-site and will have the opportunity to work alongside Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team, contributing to a project that will have a lasting impact on a local family.
How to Get Involved
Anyone willing to assist is urged to get in touch urgently by emailing [email protected] with their trade, availability, and contact details.
“We offer a unique on-site experience, full catering, and the joy of volunteering with your community,” the team added. “Come and join Nick and the team on-site for as many days as you can possibly help with.”
This is a rare opportunity for local tradespeople and suppliers to make a difference in their community—and to be part of a heartfelt, life-changing project.
