Moped Rider Caught on Four-Lane Motorway Near Slough – Vehicle Seized by Police

A moped rider had their ill-advised motorway adventure brought to an abrupt end by Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) after attempting to travel along a busy four-lane motorway near Slough — despite the vehicle being completely unsuited for such roads.

The moped, which had a top speed of just 28mph, was spotted weaving among fast-moving traffic, including high-speed vehicles and heavy goods lorries. Officers were quick to intervene, bringing the dangerous ride to a stop before any serious incident occurred.

In a social media post highlighting the incident, the RPU quipped:

“We often wonder what goes through people’s heads before they make a decision… ‘My moped only goes about 28mph… Shall I go on the big four-lane motorway with really fast cars and big lorries?’ ? yes, no, yes, no…?‍♂️ ‘I’ll do it anyway.’ ?‍♂️”

No Insurance – Moped Seized

Further checks by officers revealed that the moped was being ridden without insurance. The vehicle was immediately seized, and the rider is now facing further legal consequences.

Police have reminded motorists that mopeds and other low-powered vehicles are not permitted on motorways, both for safety reasons and due to legal restrictions.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said:

“The safety of all road users is our priority. Vehicles not suited for motorway use pose a serious danger to themselves and others. We urge all drivers and riders to ensure their vehicles are road legal and appropriate for the roads they’re travelling on.”

The incident has sparked online debate and concern over road safety awareness and the risks posed by uninsured and unsuitable vehicles on major roads.
