A horrifying act of violence shocked passengers and bystanders this morning after a 46-year-old man allegedly set his wife on fire while riding a tram in Gera, eastern Germany.
The suspect, Tengizi Kakiashvili, also 46 and originally from Georgia, is accused of pouring petrol or another flammable liquid over his wife before setting her alight in a terrifying attack witnessed by other passengers.
Victim Airlifted to Hospital
Emergency services were quickly called to the scene, where paramedics provided critical medical treatment to the victim. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted by helicopter to a specialist hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
Suspect in Custody
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was immediately detained at the scene by police. A full criminal investigation is now underway, with investigators working to determine the exact circumstances and motive behind the horrific assault.
A police spokesperson said:
